CCC Events during Format

September 10 ‐ 12 2026

Format Montréal is a community-led, horizontal design fair amplifying talent in the Montreal design scene.

In December 2026, designers around the city of Montréal received a mysterious letter in the mail. What if Montréal had its own version of 3 Days of Design, Fourisalone or the CDMX Art/ Design Week? Their curiosity piqued, more than 60 designers representing studios around the city heeded the call. A meeting took place, and then more followed. On 10-11-12 September, the fruit of these imaginings, baptized Format, will take place for the first time. Exhibitions, pop-up shops, conferences, vernissages and gatherings of all kinds invite Montréalers to experience the rich cultural offering of its designers, designer-makers, craftspeople, builders, imaginers and architects. The CCC will participate in Format with two events to bring the community together.

Conference: What does the role of craft look like in contemporary design?

Craftsmanship can take on many forms. For some, it’s found in developing concepts for industrial production. For others, it lies in the intimate knowledge that comes from making an object by hand. Others relate to craft as an independent discipline and contribute to design through collaborations with architects, interior designers and collectors.

Bringing together the perspectives of designer, designer-maker, manufacturer and craft artist, this panel explores the many ways craftsmanship informs a contemporary practice. Through a conversation spanning disciplines, materials and scales of production, we’ll discuss how craft shapes process, authorship and creativity.
