The CCC was created in 2018 by Samuel Lambert, Quinlan Osborne and Zébulon Perron. As founders of their own design companies, facing the inherent difficulties of building a profile internationally within a highly competitive industry, they were disappointed by the lack of a Canadian presence at international events. The CCC was created to change this.

History

With their collective experience and a desire to build a community in which designers collaborated, worked together and championed each other, Lambert, Osborne and Perron worked together to create a first-ever showing of Canadian design for the 2020 Salone del Mobile.

Working with curator Nicolas Bellavance-Lecompte, an exhibition of eight creators was mounted, including Lambert et fils, Atelier Zébulon Perron, Claste Collection, Yannick Pouliot, Loïc Bard, SSSVLL, Pascale Girardin and David Umemoto. The exhibition was called Fictions.

Though the timing was unfortunate — the 2020 Salone was cancelled due to the global pandemic — the exhibition was on the front page of Wallpaper Magazine (January 2021), and the CCC was on its way!

What is a ‘creator’?

The CCC operates in the space between what would traditionally be considered interior spaces  and the world of objects and materials that populate them, such as furniture, lighting, and art. While many of us are designers and design is central to what we do, the CCC is not a design association.

We use the term ‘creator’ broadly to refer to interior designers, product designers, architects, design entrepreneurs, artists, designer-makers, and artisans. But we see ourselves larger than that.

As an industry, this also includes the immense contributions of the many people who support this industry: the photographers, curators, journalists, graphic designers, PR companies, retail stores, universities and institutions that propel this creative sector forward.

Why become a member?

We are a Collective because we see ourselves not as a centralised organization, but as a group of entities working together, sharing common interests, and collaborating to achieve shared goals. We are an alliance of individuals who contribute to the common good through their time, investment, and ideas.

Through our membership structure and initiatives, we stimulate connections and collaborations between designers, artisans, makers, and studios who otherwise work in isolation. Our aim is to bring together the Canadian creative community across an otherwise fragmented industry.

We pursue the highest standard. Through awards, exhibitions and juried selection, we create clear reference points for who is doing exceptional work, giving emerging, growing, and established creators the recognition they deserve. We raise the bar for Canadian design.

Our Team

The CCC is an incorporated non-profit organisation. We have a Board of Directors that assures the responsibility of decision-making on behalf of the community we serve.
